The day, as they ran it
  1. 8:20 am1
Bormio day pass at the Bormio 2000 cable carBormio

Bormio is one mountain with one main descent line, so a valley pass is all you need — the Alta Valtellina pass only pays off if you are driving to Livigno or Santa Caterina the same week.

    3 min walk · 0 m
  2. 8:40 am2
Cable car from town up to Bormio 2000Bormio

The lift starts in the town, so you can walk from the old centre in boots. Get the first or second car: the Stelvio is south-facing low down and the whole plan depends on being on it before eleven.

  3. 9:10 am3
The Stelvio, top to bottom, while it is still cordBormio

A thousand metres of vertical in one run, with pitches over 50% and no flat sections to rest on — this is a World Cup downhill and the men's Milano Cortina 2026 course. Ski it twice in the first two hours and accept that your legs are then done; trying to save it for the afternoon means skiing slush over ice.

    3 min walk · 250 m
  4. 11:15 am4
Up to Cima Bianca at 3,012 mBormio

The top of the mountain and the coldest snow of the day — worth going up even if you only ski the one run back down. On a clear morning you can see the Ortler group from the ridge.

9 min by train or taxi · 5.8 km
  5. 12:30 pm5
    Lunch at Heaven 3000Bormio

Order the Valtellina plates rather than pasta — pizzoccheri, sciatt, bresaola — because this is one of the few valleys in the Alps with a genuinely distinct kitchen and you will not find it in the Dolomites. Book the table before you get on the first lift.

8 min by train or taxi · 3.1 km
  6. 2:30 pm6
Last runs down the Genziana line into townBormio

Finish early on purpose. The afternoon plan below is the reason this day is worth cloning and it does not work if you ski until the lifts shut.

9 min by train or taxi · 5.8 km
  7. 3:45 pm7
QC Terme Bagni Vecchi, the thermal cave above BormioValdidentro

Roman-era baths cut into the rock, a natural steam grotto in a tunnel, and an outdoor pool looking straight down the valley — go in ski clothes, everything else (robe, towel, slippers) is included, and so is the evening Aperiterme. Take the five-hour Escape entry rather than the full day; nobody lasts longer than that. Book the slot, they cap numbers, and note that under-14s are not admitted here.

8 min by train or taxi · 3.0 km
  8. 7:30 pm8
    Pizzoccheri in the old townBormio

Bormio's centre is a medieval village, not a purpose-built resort street, and the good tables are small. Walk in before 19:45 or book at lunchtime — after the baths you will not want to negotiate.
