- 7:30 am1Santarosa and coffee at Pasticceria PansaAmalfi
On the cathedral steps since 1830 and open at 07:30, which almost nothing else in Amalfi is. The santarosa is the coast's own older, sweeter ancestor of the Naples sfogliatella and is only made properly here and in Conca dei Marini, where the nuns invented it.
3 min walk · 200 m - 8:15 am2Meet the skipper at the Molo PennelloAmalfi
Charters load from the left-hand mole, not the ferry quay where the Positano boats fill up. Confirm by 21:00 the night before: the skipper reads the morning sea state and a Force 4 out of the west cancels Capri altogether, not just the grotto. Bring cash for the tip and for the grotto dinghy.
- 9 am3Around Capri anti-clockwise: the Faraglioni, the grottoes, a swimCapri
A full-day gozzo with skipper out of Amalfi is €900–1,300 for the boat, not per person, plus fuel — split four ways it costs about what four ferry-plus-tour tickets cost and is a completely different day. Go anti-clockwise so you are through the Faraglioni arch before 10:30, when the tour fleet arrives from Sorrento. The Blue Grotto needs flat calm and a low tide, the transfer in is a separate rowing boat at roughly €18 cash a head, and a skipper who tells you it is shut is telling you the truth. Verified 2026-09-06 on the grotto: entry runs 08:30–18:00 from 1 April to 30 September, 08:30–16:00 for the first half of October and 09:00–14:00 from 16 October to 31 March; it is always shut on 25 December and 1 January, only sporadically open through the winter, and closed outright on any swell — the skippers judge it at the cave mouth each morning from about 09:00.
- 1:30 pm4Lunch at Il RiccioAnacapri
One Michelin star, blue-and-white tiles on a terrace directly above the Blue Grotto, and the only room on the island where the food is the point rather than the view. Book weeks out and ask for a terrace table, then ask to see the dessert room — it is a walk-in fridge they let you choose from. Around €110–130 a head before wine.
8 min by train or taxi · 1.8 km - 3:45 pm5Villa San MicheleAnacapri
Ten minutes from the restaurant. Axel Munthe built it on a Tiberian ruin and the loggia at the far end, with the Egyptian sphinx facing out to sea, is the best view on Capri that does not require a boat or a chairlift. Verified 2026-09-06: open daily from 09:00, closing 19:00 June–August, 18:00 in May and September, 17:00 in April and October, 16:30 in March and 15:30 from November to January — and closed for the whole of February, plus Tuesdays in January. This stop has been moved back to 15:45 so it still fits in the April–October shoulder; from November to January it has to happen before lunch instead.
11 min walk · 800 m - 4:45 pm6Seggiovia to the top of Monte SolaroAnacapri
A single-seat chairlift from Piazza Vittoria with your feet swinging over other people's gardens, twelve minutes each way. CORRECTED 2026-09-06: the old note said the last ascent is an hour before closing, which is wrong and cost you the ride. Ascents run 09:15–17:00 in April, May, September and October (last descent 17:30), 09:30–16:00 from November to March (last descent 16:30), and late into the evening only in high summer. The 17:00 start this stop used to carry was the very last chair at best and impossible for five months of the year, so it now goes up at 16:45 — and from November to March both this and Villa San Michele must move ahead of lunch. It also stops in any real wind. If your knees are willing, walk down through the hermitage at Santa Maria Cetrella instead of riding back.
21 min walk · 1.5 km - 6:30 pm7Back to Amalfi along the cliffsCapri
The run home passes under Positano at the hour the cliffs turn orange, which is the part of the charter nobody photographs in the brochure. Tip the skipper in cash — €50–80 on a full-day charter is normal and is not included in the quoted price.
- 8 pm8A lemon granita on the Amalfi seafrontAmalfi
Crushed in front of you from sfusato amalfitano lemons at the kiosk by the roundabout. Two or three euros, and after the day you have just paid for it will taste like the best thing you bought.
