- 7:30 am 1Early bus from Campo Grande to EriceiraLisbon
Carris Metropolitana buses leave Campo Grande (bays 22-24, outside the metro). The 2740 runs every day including weekends, about 78 minutes; the faster 2801 runs only at weekday rush hours. Single €4.50 cash to the driver, no return tickets. There is no train to Ericeira. The bus station is about 1.5 km uphill from the centre.
30 min by train or taxi · 30 km - 9:30 am 2Two-hour beginner surf lesson at Foz do LizandroEriceira
Ericeira became Europe's first World Surfing Reserve in 2011, and schools rate Foz do Lizandro's river-mouth sandbank one of the best beginner spots. A two-hour group lesson with board, wetsuit and insurance runs about €40-65 (2026); many schools collect you in town and pick the beach on the day's swell. Book the day before; groups max out around six.
8 min by train or taxi · 2.5 km - 12:30 pm 3Seafood lunch at Mar d'AreiaEriceira
Local seafood house in the old town that two Ericeira day-trip guides both recommend: grilled fish chosen by weight, clams, and a cold vinho verde. Budget about €25 a head.
3 min walk · 100 m - 2 pm 4Praia dos Pescadores and an ouriço in the old townEriceira
The harbour beach, sheltered by the sea wall and calm enough to swim, with fishing boats pulled up on the sand. Up in the whitewashed lanes, try an ouriço, the local cake with a crisp shell and soft vanilla centre. The fish market by Largo dos Condes is worth a look on the way.
11 min walk · 800 m - 3 pm 5Second session: hire a board at Praia do SulEriceira
Put the morning's lesson to work on the town's central beginner beach, with cafés on the cliff above. Rent a soft-top and wetsuit from a surf shop in town for the afternoon, or book a second group lesson if you'd rather have a coach. Check the tide with the shop: beginners do best on the mid tide.
8 min by train or taxi · 3.4 km - 5 pm 6Clifftop walk north to watch Ribeira d'IlhasEriceira
The right-hand reef break that hosts the world surf championship stop, about 3 km north along the cliffs. It is for intermediate and advanced surfers, so this is the spot to sit on the wall and watch the good ones. Free; a taxi back saves the walk.
8 min by train or taxi · 2.7 km - 6:30 pm 7Sunset wine at Mar das LatasEriceira
Wine-and-petiscos bar on the cliff, the sunset spot two Ericeira guides both name (try the beef-cheek croquettes). Reserve in summer. About €15-20 with a glass and a couple of plates.
16 min walk · 1.2 km - 8 pm 8Bus back to LisbonEriceira
60 to 80 minutes back to Campo Grande. Check the Carris Metropolitana timetable for the last 2740 before you go. An Uber or Bolt runs about €40.
