- 10 am1Dr. Konstantin Frank, on the west bluffHammondsport
Start here and start early — this is where Frank proved in the 1960s that European vinifera would survive an upstate winter, and every dry Riesling in this file descends from that argument. Verified 2026-09-06 (drfrankwines.com): open daily 10:00–17:00 with the last tasting at 16:00 — the 09:45 start this day used to carry was before the doors opened, so the stop now begins at 10:00. Reservations are recommended and genuinely needed after noon; standard parties are capped at six and groups of twelve or more must reserve. The $25 tasting price was not re-verified. From June to October the 1886 Food and Wine Experience is $35 on the terrace and buys you the best view on the lake with your wine, which is the version to take. Ask for the Rkatsiteli — nobody else in the country grows it seriously. The June-to-October 1886 Food and Wine Experience and its $35 price could not be confirmed on the winery’s current pages this pass — check it still exists before building the terrace hour around it.
8 min by train or taxi · 4.4 km - 11:15 am2Glenn H. Curtiss MuseumHammondsport
Hammondsport built the first American aircraft sold commercially, and the museum has the motorcycles and flying boats to prove it. Forty-five minutes is honest; two hours if anyone in the car likes engines. Skip it without guilt if the weather is good — the lake is the reason you came. Verified 2026-09-06 (glennhcurtissmuseum.org/visit): open seven days a week, 09:00–17:00 from 1 May to 31 October and 10:00–16:00 from 1 November to 30 April — no closure day to work around.
21 min walk · 1.5 km - 12:15 pm3Lunch on the square at the Village TavernHammondsport
The wine list here is deeper than at most of the wineries — hundreds of Finger Lakes bottles, many by the glass, at shop prices. If you want to compare producers side by side without driving between them, this is the cheapest way to do it in the region.
2h 41m by train or taxi · 355 km - 1:30 pm4Route 54A north up the west branchBranchport
54A hugs the waterline the whole way to Branchport and is the better half of the loop by a distance. Pull off at the Bluff Point overlooks rather than trying to look sideways while driving — the shoulder is narrow and the road has no straight sections worth the name.
- 2:30 pm5Hunt Country VineyardsBranchport
Sixth-generation farm, and the least polished tasting room on this list in the best way — they will pour you the Vignoles and the ice wine and talk about frost. Tastings are cheap and often waived on a bottle. They also tap maple in March, which is worth knowing if you come back in spring.
- 3:40 pm6Keuka Lake State Park at Bluff PointBranchport
Hold: the $10 vehicle fee and the swim beach only exist in season, roughly May to October, and the beach is guarded on a short schedule. Come for the shoreline and the view down both branches rather than the swimming — the water is cold into July and the beach is small.
- 5 pm7Skyline Drive back over the bluffPenn Yan
The road that runs the spine of the bluff between the two branches, with water on both sides. It is a public road, it is narrow, and there is no guardrail — do it in daylight and not in rain. Come down the east side on 54 back into Hammondsport and you have driven the whole Y.
- 6:15 pm8Dinner at the WaterfrontHammondsport
Deck tables face west down the lake and go first — walk in at 18:00 or accept the dining room. Order the local wine by the glass; the markup here is the lowest you will see all trip. Depot Park next door is the sunset spot afterwards and costs nothing.
