Koh Yao Noi by bicycle: rice paddies, the Laem Haad sandbar, dinner over the fields

- 8 am1Speedboat from Bang Rong PierPhuket
Speedboats run through the day, about 30 minutes for 200B; the longtail is half the money and 70 minutes, and worth doing once for the way the karsts come out of the haze. Bang Rong is on Phuket's north-east coast — 45 minutes from the airport, an hour from Patong, and easy to underestimate.
23 min by train or taxi · 23 km - 9:15 am2Bicycle from a shop in Tha KhaoKo Yao Noi
100B for the day. Take the bicycle rather than the scooter: the island is flat, the whole loop is about 25km, and half the reason to be here is going slowly enough that people wave at you.
3 min walk · 0 m - 10 am3The inland loop: paddies, buffalo, rubberKo Yao Noi
Go inland rather than around the coast road. Rice paddies, water buffalo, rubber trees still being tapped in the morning, and the call to prayer over all of it — this is a Muslim island, so cover shoulders away from the beaches and do not expect to buy a beer outside a resort.
3 min walk · 0 m - 12:15 pm4Lunch and a swim at Pasai BeachKo Yao Noi
The island's most swimmable sand, and only near high tide — at low water the whole west shore goes out to mudflat for a few hundred metres and swimming is not an option. Check the tide before deciding whether this stop is a swim or just lunch.
3 min walk · 0 m - 2:30 pm5Laem Haad sandbar, around low tideKo Yao Noi
This is the one stop that cannot be moved. The sandbar exists for roughly two hours either side of low tide and is open sea the rest of the day, so look up the Phang Nga tide table and build the day outward from it. A longtail across from the north shore is about 100B, or you can walk in on the resort track and wade.
3 min walk · 0 m - 5:45 pm6Sunset dinner at Rice Paddy Viewpoint RestaurantKo Yao Noi
Open-sided, up above the fields, with the sun going down behind the karsts at the far end. Message ahead in high season — there are maybe a dozen tables. Ride there before dark: there is no street lighting on the inland roads, and an unlit bicycle on Koh Yao Noi at 20:00 is a genuinely bad idea.
3 min walk · 0 m - 8 pm7Hold a bungalow instead of chasing the last boatKo Yao Noi
The last speedboat back to Phuket leaves mid-afternoon, which quietly makes the sunset dinner impossible as a day trip. Hold one night — 1,000–1,800B for a fan bungalow near Pasai — and release it at lunchtime if the tide has ruined the plan.
