  1. Day 110 am – 8 pm · 7 stops
  2. 10 am 1
    Michael's Gate and TowerBratislava

The only surviving gate of the medieval walls, and the natural start of an Old Town walk; several travellers who went (Kristin Henning, Dave Briggs) and the city tourist office's walking route begin here. Climb the tower for the first view over the rooftops. Winter hours from the Bratislava City Museum: Wednesday to Monday 10:00 to 18:00, closed Tuesdays. Entry fee not confirmed, so check at the door.

  3. 10:55 am 2
Old Town Hall and Main SquareBratislava

Bratislava's oldest town hall holds the city history museum, and its tower looks straight down on Hlavné námestie, the main square. Recommended in traveller itineraries and the tourist-office walking tour. City Museum winter hours: Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 to 18:00, closed Mondays.

    3 min walk · 50 m
  4. 11:55 am 3
    Primate's PalaceBratislava

A pale pink neoclassical palace a minute from the main square, with the Hall of Mirrors and a set of 17th-century English tapestries. Dave Briggs singled out its paintings, chandeliers and tapestries. City of Bratislava: €5 adults, €2.50 over 60; closed Mondays, and on some weekdays it closes as early as 14:00 or 15:00, so go before lunch.

    7 min walk · 550 m
  5. 12:50 pm 4
    Lunch at Slovak PubBratislava

Rambling, cheap and very Slovak: travel writers Rose (Where Goes Rose?) and Steph Parker both ate here. Order bryndzové halušky (potato dumplings with sheep's cheese and bacon), garlic soup in a bread bowl or the sharing platter. Service can be slow at peak times. Open daily from 11:00.

    12 min walk · 900 m
  6. 2:15 pm 5
    St Martin's CathedralBratislava

The Gothic coronation church of Hungarian kings, with a gilded crown on its spire. Travellers note the interior is plainer than the outside, so don't overstay. Monday to Saturday 9:00 to 18:00 with a lunch break 11:30 to 13:00; Sunday 13:00 to 16:30; may close for services. The Bratislava Card lists entry at €5.

    4 min walk · 350 m
  7. 3:15 pm 6
Bratislava Castle and the Museum of HistoryBratislava

Walk up from the cathedral for views over the Danube and into Austria and Hungary. The Slovak National Museum's history exhibition inside was a highlight for Kristin Henning (the entrance is easy to miss). Museum open daily except Tuesday, 10:00 to 18:00, last entry 17:00; the grounds stay open until 22:00, and a winter sunset (around 16:00) from the terraces is free. Adult ticket about €14 per the Bratislava Card listing.

  8. 5:30 pm 7
Christmas markets on Main and Franciscan SquaresBratislava

From 26 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 the Old Town squares fill with stalls (food 10:00 to 22:00, closed 24 and 25 December). Make dinner a grazing one: lokše potato pancakes (savoury with goose liver or sweet), kapustnica cabbage soup with sausage, and mulled wine. Weekday evenings are calmer than weekends. Bring some euro cash for small stalls. Outside market season, eat at Slovak Pub or Koliba Kamzík instead.

  9. Day 29:30 am – 8:30 pm · 8 stops
  10. 9:30 am 8
Bus 28 or 29 from Most SNP to DevínBratislava

Buses 28 and 29 leave from the Most SNP stop under the UFO bridge; about 20 minutes to the Devín stop, then a 5 to 10 minute walk (Sophie Pearce, Third Eye Traveller). Covered by the Bratislava Card.

  11. 10 am 9
    Devín CastleBratislava

Cliff-top ruins where the Morava meets the Danube, with Austria across the water; the half-day trip that 2-day itineraries add once the Old Town is done. Bring layers: there's little shelter. Official hours November to February: Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 to 16:00, last entry 15:15, closed Mondays; in winter the permanent exhibition is closed and the upper castle can shut in icy weather. A 2026 traveller report puts winter entry at €4; check the castle's site.

  12. 12:30 pm 10
Bus back to the Old TownBratislava

Same buses (28 or 29) back to Most SNP, about 20 minutes.

16 min by train or taxi · 10.0 km
  13. 1:15 pm 11
    Lunch at Koliba KamzíkBratislava

A traditional Slovak restaurant on Zelená that Kristin Henning found popular with locals (she had goulash) and Steph Parker recommends for potato dumplings with cheese, or deer loin and duck breast. Potatoes turn up everywhere, even in dessert.

    3 min walk · 200 m
  14. 2:35 pm 12
Hviezdoslav Square and the National TheatreBratislava

The long, tree-lined square in front of the historic Slovak National Theatre, two minutes from lunch. In market season it hosts its own stalls (daily 10:00 to 22:00), known for hot honey mead. Walk its length toward the river and the bridge.

    8 min walk · 600 m
  15. 3:25 pm 13
Sunset from the UFO observation deckBratislava

The saucer on top of the SNP Bridge, 95 m up, is where Sophie Pearce and Steph Parker both say to watch sunset, with a drink at the UFO Bar. In winter the sun sets around 16:00, so arrive by 15:30 for a spot. Open daily 10:00 to 23:00. Tickets at the desk only, card payment: €9.90 weekday mornings, €11.90 weekday afternoons and weekends (early 2026). The fee is credited if you order a main course in the restaurant. Steep stairs remain after the lift.

    The Blue ChurchBratislava

Bratislava's Art Nouveau church, blue inside and out, on Bezručova at the eastern edge of the Old Town. The interior opens only around services: Monday to Saturday 6:30 to 7:30 and 17:30 to 19:00, Sundays 7:30 to 12:00 and 16:00 to 19:00 (Visit Bratislava). Free; stay quiet if Mass is on.

  17. 6:30 pm 15
    Dinner at Bratislava Flagship RestaurantBratislava

A huge restaurant in a restored old theatre that brews its own beer. Steph Parker recommends the potato dumplings with minced meat and the house beer; Rose (Where Goes Rose?) rates its good-value daily menu. Book ahead in market season.
