Jaipur turns 300 in 2027. Amber Fort at opening, Nahargarh at sunset, the Old City's palaces and bazaars, and the street food locals queue for. Built from six traveller itineraries and four food guides, checked against 2026 news and visitor reviews. Monument fees doubled in January 2026, so the prices here are the new ones. Best from late October to March.

- 7:15 am 1Jal Mahal from the lakeside roadJaipur
The water palace in the middle of Man Sagar lake, on the road out to Amber. Every one of the six itineraries we read stops here. You can only look from the shore: one traveller notes the boats out to it stopped years ago. Hire a car and driver for today, since one traveller found taxis wouldn't take a one-way fare out to Amber.
8 min by train or taxi · 3.7 km - 7:45 am 2Amber Fort at openingJaipur
Be at the gate when it opens: one recent visitor saw crowds build after about 9:30. Walk up through Suraj Pol (about 15 minutes) rather than taking the jeep, and allow three hours for the Diwan-i-Aam, the zenana and the mirrored Sheesh Mahal. Opening time is disputed (India's tourism ministry says 9:00, recent traveller guides say 8:00), so check the evening before. Buy the Jaipur composite ticket here: 1,700 rupees for a foreign visitor, 550 for Indian visitors, after Rajasthan doubled monument fees in January 2026 (most blogs still show the old prices). It covers Amber, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Nahargarh, Albert Hall and Sisodia Rani Bagh; one source says it lasts two days. Skip the elephant rides: both trip reports that mention them say no.
7 min walk · 550 m - 10:50 am 3Panna Meena ka Kund stepwellJaipur
A 16th-century stepwell a few minutes' walk from Amber, free to visit. Visitors can no longer walk down the steps (guards whistle anyone who tries), so photograph it from the top.
7 min walk · 550 m - 11:30 am 4Lunch at 1135 ADJaipur
A restaurant inside the fort, recommended by one trip report and one food guide for laal maas, Jaipur's mutton curry. The easy lunch on a fort day; prices and hours weren't checked. Afterwards, rest through the afternoon heat: one traveller warns that a second fort straight after Amber is one too many. If you want more, Jaigarh Fort is next door.
10 min by train or taxi · 6.2 km - 4:30 pm 5Nahargarh Fort for sunsetJaipur
Five of the six itineraries come here, most at sunset for the view over the pink city. Covered by the composite ticket. The palace rooms close at 17:30, but a guide updated in September 2026 says the walls stay open for sunset until about 21:00 from October to March. The rooftop cafe here (Padao) was shut by a 2021 tribunal order and no recent review says it has reopened, so don't plan dinner on it.
- 7:30 pm 6Dinner at Bar PalladioJaipur
A cocktail bar in the Narain Niwas palace hotel, open 18:00 to 23:00. One trip report ends a day here and one food guide recommends the wood-fired pizzas. Roughly 1,800 rupees for two.
- Day 28 am – 9:30 pm · 8 stops
- 8 am 7Breakfast facing Hawa MahalJaipur
Rooftop cafes across the road look straight at Hawa Mahal's facade before it opens; two itineraries recommend Tattoo Cafe and two recommend Wind View Cafe next to it. Go for the view: one traveller says not to expect great food, and both ask a minimum spend of about 500 rupees.
3 min walk · 150 m - 9 am 8Hawa MahalJaipur
The five-storey honeycomb of 953 windows, built so the palace women could watch the street unseen. All six itineraries include it. Opens at 9:00; covered by the composite ticket.
3 min walk · 250 m - 10 am 9Jantar MantarJaipur
The 18th-century observatory across the square from City Palace, a UNESCO site with the world's largest stone sundial. Four itineraries pair it with City Palace. Covered by the composite ticket.
3 min walk · 200 m - 11 am 10City PalaceJaipur
Open 9:30 to 18:30, and all six itineraries include it. Not on the composite ticket: 2026 visitor reviews put the foreign museum ticket at about 1,000 to 1,100 rupees. Two things changed in 2026: the Textile Gallery in Mubarak Mahal closed for restoration in March, and the night museum is temporarily closed. One traveller found it poor value for an hour's visit.
10 min walk · 750 m - 1 pm 11Thali lunch at LMBJaipur
Laxmi Misthan Bhandar has fed Johari Bazaar for generations, and all four food guides we read name it. Order the Rajasthani thali (dal baati churma, gatte, ker sangri) and finish with ghewar. Open 7:00 to 23:00.
3 min walk · 50 m - 2 pm 12Johari and Tripolia bazaarsJaipur
Johari Bazaar for kundan and enamel jewellery, then Tripolia Bazaar for lac bangles. National Geographic's Jaipur piece and two itineraries send you here. Bargain.
8 min by train or taxi · 2.6 km - 4:30 pm 13Chai at Gulab JiJaipur
A roadside stall on MI Road that five sources between them name for masala chai and bun maska. One guide says it shuts at 6 PM, so go mid-afternoon.
15 min walk · 1.1 km - 6:30 pm 14A Hindi film at Raj MandirJaipur
The 1970s cinema palace two itineraries recommend for a Hindi film in a meringue-pink hall. Tickets from roughly 150 rupees in older guides. Showtimes weren't checked, so look them up the day before.
- Day 37:30 am – 8:45 pm · 7 stops
- 7:30 am 15Pyaaz kachori at RawatJaipur
Every food guide we read sends you here for pyaaz kachori, an onion-filled pastry, with a mirchi bada on the side. Opens at 6:00, near the railway station; roughly 375 rupees a head. For Lassiwala's famous lassi on MI Road, go before lunch: one guide says it sells out by 2 PM.
14 min by train or taxi · 8.9 km - 8:45 am 16Patrika GateJaipur
The painted gateway at Jawahar Circle, free and always open. Three itineraries come early, before the light flattens and the crowds arrive.
16 min by train or taxi · 10 km - 10:15 am 17Galta Ji, the Monkey TempleJaipur
The temple complex in a ravine east of the city, with sacred tanks and troops of monkeys; three itineraries include it. There is no entry fee, whatever touts say. Priests may ask 20 to 50 rupees, a little more if you carry a camera. Don't feed the monkeys.
8 min by train or taxi · 2.0 km - 12 pm 18Sisodia Rani BaghJaipur

3 min walk · 200 m - 7:15 pm 21Albert Hall Museum by nightJaipur
The Indo-Saracenic museum in the same garden, lit up after dark; four itineraries include it. The day ticket is in the composite. The night opening (19:00 to 21:30) has its own small fee, about 100 rupees in 2026 guides, not confirmed since the price rise.
